The same visual and tension check can be performed on the serpentine belt. There should be enough tension to allow the belt to be pushed down about three quarters of an inch.
If what you are talking about is top end valvetrain noise when the engine is warm, then it is definitely normal. I think we all hear this. This is my fourth LSx engine, and they have ALL had this noise. Never any detrimental issues to the motors either.

Have listened with stethoscope everywhere and can't find obvious ticking. Few of injectors and couple coil packs make more noise than the others with steth.., but nothing obvious.

Dec 08, 2015 · Seems to only start after approx 5 minutes running (ie: when warmed up). Is worse and loud at idle, seems to redcue/disappear under acceleration/power. While I thought it was a failed alternator clutch or slipping belt I think it's now a leak from some system under pressure as it continues after the car is turned off for approx 3-5 secs.
1. Oil seal on the oil pump has a split in it and causes the oil to get air and foam a little which can cause the tappet noise. (Starts real loud and diminishes as engine warms up but never quite goes away) 2. Oil is thick due to really cold weather and just needs to work its way up the top of the engine.

When I remove the oil cap, the engine pressure is relieved and the squealing stops. When I tighten the oil cap , the squeal re-starts. The noise happens during idle and when engine is hot.
